Òpera Popular de Barcelona was founded to bring opera to new audiences and build their connection with this total art form. We seek a direct relationship between music, stage and audience.
Our productions may pass through 1960s Barcelona, Mediterranean light or the memory held in the city’s streets. Barcelona is a way of seeing and understanding opera.
The company
Òpera Popular de Barcelona creates and presents unique productions, born in Barcelona with a distinctive identity, inspired by the imagination of its founder and director, theatre creator Jaume Villanueva.
The stages
Our first performance at the Palau de la Música Catalana was The Magic Flute on 5 February 2023, during the 2022–2023 season. Since then, we have performed at the Palau and at other theatres around the world.
The audience
We engage local audiences and visitors from around the world, bringing them closer to timeless stories reimagined through an urban perspective.
