Our interpretation

Freedom, desire and violence in the bitter Barcelona of the 1960s.

The opera

Carmen lives without asking permission in a world that cannot tolerate her freedom. Don José’s obsession and Escamillo’s arrival propel the story towards an ending this production examines through gender-based violence, without reducing it to a picturesque postcard.
