Traviata Palau February 6: a new date at the Palau

Opera Popular de Barcelona announces a new performance of La traviata at the Palau de la Música Catalana on February 6. A new opportunity to experience one of Giuseppe Verdi’s most beloved operas in an iconic venue, through a production designed to connect with today’s audiences.

This performance adds to the dates already scheduled for the first half of 2026 and strengthens the production’s presence at the Palau. The staging focuses on emotion, narrative clarity and a close relationship with the audience, offering an intimate reading of Violetta’s story.

Miquel Ortega makes his debut as musical director

The February 6 performance will mark Miquel Ortega’s debut as musical director with Opera Popular de Barcelona. Born in Barcelona, Ortega is widely regarded as one of Spain’s leading experts in lyric theatre, thanks to his long career as a conductor, composer and répétiteur.

He has conducted at major venues including the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Covent Garden in London, the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Teatro Real and La Zarzuela in Madrid. Renowned singers such as Montserrat Caballé, Josep Carreras, Jaume Aragall and Carlos Álvarez have collaborated with him for recitals and recordings. His musical insight brings depth and refinement to Verdi’s score.

The return of Núria Vilà as Violetta

On this new date, audiences will once again see Núria Vilà in the role of Violetta. The soprano returns to Opera Popular de Barcelona after recently making her debut as Gianetta in L’elisir d’amore at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

Her portrayal combines sensitivity, expressive strength and a strong connection with the character, offering a Violetta that speaks directly to the audience.
